VR Potion Game and MR Experience
Final Year Project: VR Potion Game
As of Fall 2022, I’m currently in my last year of engineering school, in a specialization in Video Games, Interactions and Digital Collaborations. Therefore, all students have a final year project in team of 4, and mine got Apothecary’s Oath, a fantasy VR game where the player must welcome sick clients and prepare the right potions for their needs, by manipulating instruments and ingredients. As of October 2022, we didn’t have the time to do much progress yet, but as the Lead Developer, I already explored the Oculus Integration SDK to work with Oculus Quests in Unity. I discovered his technology is quite a challenge because as it’s new, documentation in scarce and as packages gets uploaded, the few tutorials online are not always relevants. For now, we’re able to grab and manipulate objects, and also have hand poses to hold the objects in specific ways. On the design side, we planned most of the game features and contents and are ready to code the first prototype of the pouring between vials.
2023 Update : we ended up with a game we are very proud of and shared it on itch.io ! More info here: https://nethos.itch.io/apothecarys-oath
Mixed Reality Internship at Geomatys
Continuing with a totally different project, after my first year of engineering school, I took my summer internship at Geomatys, a company specialized in Geomatics, that need help in developing a mixed reality prototype using Unity, a Hololens 2 headset and Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Toolkit. The idea was to allow sailors to visualize the currents of the sea in real time. It was very satisfying because I felt I was really contributing with my game development experience, as the developers I was working with weren’t used to game engines. I worked on core features, such as geolocalisation and displaying the current arrows at the right place, but also on UI/UX in order to let the sailor tweak time or some other parameters.
